And it will be curious to observe Boulez straggling home to Darmstadt.<\/p>\n<p>Boulez has neither elegance nor physicality. \u00a0His sound consists of a million gestures, all going upward (ertainly not to heaven) &#8211; an \u00e9tude, a\u00a0caricature\u00a0of our times, a homage to Artaud and Franz Liszt.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, he is a magnificent academician, and it will be thanks to his sucess that we will be able to hear more of Var\u00e8se, John Cage, Christian Wolff and myself.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fightin&#8217; words.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;He alone has given us this elegance, this physical reality, this impression that the music is writing about mankind rather than being composed&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Referring to Var\u00e8se, some beautiful words. \u00a0I feel they can be extended to most any music written at a time. \u00a0In some ways music is a reflection of the mood and psyche of a composer, all of which is impacted by the society a composer is living in. \u00a0Art as a reflection -kind of a modernist idea, huh?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Edit:<\/strong> For citation purposes; Feldman, Morton.\u00a0<em>Give my regards to Eighth Street: Collected Writings of Morton Feldman.<\/em>\u00a0B.H.
