{"id":663,"date":"2009-06-11T17:01:18","date_gmt":"2009-06-11T21:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/opensourcemusic.org\/?p=663"},"modified":"2009-06-15T10:41:01","modified_gmt":"2009-06-15T14:41:01","slug":"mendelssohn-4-pieces-for-string-quartet-op-81","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/opensourcemusic.org\/?p=663","title":{"rendered":"Mendelssohn 4 Pieces For String Quartet, Op. 81"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This work seems not to be played all that often, (at least relative to the Op. 44&#8217;s).\u00a0 In the score I&#8217;m looking at, it starts off with a lovely theme and variations then moves onto a quick scherzo.\u00a0 The third movement is the Capriccio, which moves onto a Allegro Fugato section.\u00a0 The final movement is an intensely emotional, slow Fugue.\u00a0 I say &#8220;The score I&#8217;m looking at&#8221; because the recording of the work I have, by the Bergonzi String Quartet (they play great by the way), has the last two movements switched with the Capriccio movement coming last.\u00a0 I would wonder what led them to make this choice.<\/p>\n<p>The Fugue reminds me of the incredible adagio from Beethoven&#8217;s Op. 132,\u00a0 incredibly introspective and impassioned.
