{"id":819,"date":"2009-07-05T15:19:05","date_gmt":"2009-07-05T19:19:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/opensourcemusic.org\/?p=819"},"modified":"2009-07-05T15:19:05","modified_gmt":"2009-07-05T19:19:05","slug":"sevcik-op-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/opensourcemusic.org\/?p=819","title":{"rendered":"Sevcik Op. 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most violinists or violists who&#8217;ve decided to perform as a career have played exercises from these books.\u00a0 They are not quite etudes in the sense that <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rodolphe_Kreutzer\">Kreutzer<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pierre_Rode\">Rode<\/a> are, but still much more music-like than <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Demetrius_Constantine_Dounis\">Dounis<\/a> exercises or scales.<\/p>\n<p>I find they are incredibly useful, especially the first book in teaching the hand proper motion between different placements of the fingers.\u00a0 What I mean by this, is that when a player begins ascending in pitch, placing more fingers upon the string, the hand changes its &#8220;center&#8221; from an open to closed position.\u00a0 With this change, there is a slight motion up the fingerboard with the entire hand, a slight shift with the first finger&#8217;s contact with the string moving from the pad to the tip.\u00a0 This way the fourth finger is above the string, ready to fall in its correct position.<\/p>\n<p>These simple physical changes are demonstrated easily in a lesson with Op. 1&#8217;s first exercise.\u00a0 A simple up and down scalar pattern can go a great distance when the hand position and facility needs to be taught.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sevcik Op. 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensourcemusic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/School_of_Violin_Technique_Op.1_Book1_for_Violin.pdf\">Book One<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensourcemusic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/School_of_Violin_Technique_Op.1_Book2_for_Violin.pdf\">Book Two<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensourcemusic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/School_of_Violin_Technique_Op.1_Book3_for_Violin.pdf\">Book Three<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensourcemusic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/School_of_Violin_Technique_Op.1_Book4_for_Violin.pdf\">Book Four<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most violinists or violists who&#8217;ve decided to perform as a career have played exercises from these books.
